It seems that Las Vegas has entered the vogue as the holiday destination of choice for professional footballers. Below are some of the biggest players who’ve flown to Nevada to soak up the opulence of Vegas in their summer breaks.
Rooney Rakes It In
Last year, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was spotted at the card tables in Vegas. In fact, Rooney has spent the last two summers contributing healthy portions of his £10 million annual wages to Las Vegas casino managers.
Teddy on the Tables
And he’s not the only one. Former Man United, West Ham and Colchester forward Teddy Sheringham has celebrated his 2008 retirement by making a name for himself in poker tournaments, netting $28,530 in the 2012 World Series of Poker, hosted in Las Vegas.
Nasri in Nevada
Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri also made the long-haul to Nevada this summer, kicking-back after a busy season and celebrating his 26th birthday along with his entire squad.
Nasri posted ‘selfies’ on Twitter where he is shown surrounded gaggles of glamorous women. Well, they call it Sin City for a reason…
Benoit Joins the Rebel Alliance
Surely the wackiest photos from Vegas involving professional footballers came from Tottenham’s left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who was snapped outside a swanky hotel horsing around with a man dressed as a Stormtrooper.
On the Strip
Managers and tabloids may grumble about the “image” projected by these hard-partying footballers, but for wealthy young men with the weight of the world on their shoulders, Las Vegas seems like the perfect destination to unwind and enjoy the spoils of success.
Frankly, it’s worth it for the photos…
